"It's the most wonderful time of the year..."
When I was a child, there was a tradition that we followed every year. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, my mother, grandmother, brother and I would take the train to downtown Philadelphia to shop for Christmas. But, before shopping, there was the annual tree lighting ceremony at the John Wanamaker store. We gathered in the large indoor courtyard and waited with great anticipation for the music to start. When that amazingly fabulous pipe organ began playing, there was a hush in the crowd and then came the lights on the huge tree. For this little girl, it was the most spectacular, magical event, "wonder-full", you could say. As an adult, every year when I finish decorating the trees and turn on the lights that first evening, it takes me back to those childhood days and I feel all of the same emotions that I did so many years ago.
