“Every adversity brings new experiences and new lessons.”
― Lailah Gifty Akita --
WOW, isn't that the truth?
If someone would have told me a few months ago that putting together a project and gathering the materials needed to kit said project would be an adversity, I would have probably shrugged and said, "Sure, whatever." But here we are, several months later, with lots of new experiences, new lessons, and just like at the end of a long pregnancy, a new project (my baby...grin) to show for it.
Let me introduce you to this newest creation to come from the creatologie studio..."From Sea to Shining Sea: A COMPENDIUM OF PLACES".
Before all of this (our current lifestyle) came down, I had a project in mind that was rustic, summery and involved roses. Unfortunately, when I went to order the products I needed, they weren't available. So, I went back to the drawing board. I know that many of you love to travel but, like me, are staying at home. And, maybe like me, you have spent some time reflecting on where you've been and some of your favorite places. This was the inspiration for the project...a compendium, or collection, of memorable places you've been to within this grand old USA.
This project is a collection of paper bags and kraft cardstock hand-stitched together to form an amazing travel journal of sorts, with a bit of a patriotic spin. It's probably one of the most flexible projects I've put together in that the "PLACES" are mostly generic and can be used for anything from coast to coast travel or just places you have gone to within your very own state.
When you think back over all of the trips you have been on...family trips when you were a kid, maybe some college travel, work travel, travel for scrapbooking/art workshops (YAY!!!), travel with your children and grandchildren, I bet you can come with all sorts of experiences. Think beach...coastal or lakefront...camping, hiking in the forest, flea markets (and yes, some of us actually travel to go to a flea...smile), driving through or living in the desert, farm country, ranch country (Texas, anyone?), a climb up into a lighthouse, and then, of course, the iconic American symbols like the Statue of Liberty and the flag...New York and D.C., road trips anywhere...and the list goes on. So maybe you haven't been to D.C. or New York...but you've been to a patriotic holiday parade...scrap it. Maybe you haven't seen a coastal lighthouse, but there's one within your own state...plan a trip down the road. As an aside, did you know that there are actually more lighthouses around the Great Lakes than on the coasts of the USA? And that Lake Havasu City, Arizona (which is nowhere close to a coast) has more lighthouses than any other city? Who knew, right?
So, what I'm saying here is you have probably been to more PLACES than you thought! And, I can't think of a better way to display this compendium or collection (sort of like a Cliff Notes) of all of those PLACES you've been to.
You are going to love the organic feel and look of this book...neutral colors with some of the patriotic red, white and blue interspersed throughout, LOTS of side pockets from the paper bags, flaps, and cards, great layers, dimension, and textures, and a whole lot of room for your pictures and stories too.
This project is kitted for the structure, front cover and back cover, and 15 inside surfaces. There are also several open pages for you to add more places or just more pictures of the themes included in the book. The project comes with very detailed digital instructions with large pictures that are emailed to you at the time the kit is mailed. Also, because many craft/hobby stores are closed around the country at this point, I've kept your supply/tool list to a lot of basics...your tools, basic adhesives, white and black craft paints, black and brown ink, and a simple set of watercolors will pretty much be what you need.
This fabulous kit is available right now for pre-order...and IT WILL START SHIPPING OUT THE WEEK OF JUNE 8th. The cost for the kit is $119, plus shipping (within the US, sales tax for AZ residents included in shipping). You won't want to miss out on this one...the last time I did a paper bag book, which was around three years ago, both the workshop and the extra kits sold out really fast.
If you need a lift while sheltering at home, or need the challenge or a new project, have wanted a Cliff Notes collection of your US travels to display, or just maybe want a special Mother's Day treat for yourself, click on the Buy Now button below and pre-order this COMPENDIUM OF PLACES.
And then, of course, being a desert rat myself, I had to include a "Call of the Desert" page. :)
And, by the way, I've printed out journaling for some of the pages but I'll also include a blank sheet of the parchment paper for you to print your own in case you want to personalize your book to make it about your state, or region, or maybe just your city.
Looking forward to hearing from you...and don't forget the bonus pack goes to the first 12 pre-orders!
As always, thanks for reading, for your orders and for your referrals to friends and family.
From my studio to yours,
Carol
