If you've followed my blogs, taken classes or bought kits for any length of time, something you may have noticed is that I haven't done Halloween projects.
And why is that? Well, truth be told, Halloween just isn't my thing...or so I've told myself.
So, when Cynthia, owner of Big Mouth Scrappers in Forney, TX, asked me to teach a Halloween based workshop at her store, I balked.
She was insistent...not fall, but Halloween, specifically a haunted house...and I caved.
And afterward, I whined about it to myself. I don't do Halloween, how am I supposed to create an entire project around it? Then I found a few interesting dies and my brain started working on it. OK, I told myself, you got this. It's out of the box for you but you helped create an actual haunted house for your church youth group...and it was so authentic that the high school girls shrieked and held onto each other when they walked through it. I started working on the cover...and guess what? The creativity started flowing and I was totally into it...I got it!!!
But really, that's just my opinion...unbiased of course (ha, ha)...but ultimately, you need to be the one to decide if I got it, so here goes.
OK, let's start with the structure...it's a simple, hand stitched water color book, perfect for background washes, inks and paints.
The cover is super dimensional...a haunted house framed with a wood frame and lots of details. A metal roof and door and textured fibers and papers all come together to set the tone for the album.
Inside, each of the pages is fully designed...and while there's a LOT of funky and "haunting" art, there's also room for your photos and stories to be tucked into the pockets, pouches, pamphlets and flaps.
I think you will really enjoy the layers, textures and dimensions, a la creatologie style!
If you think I got it, and you want to be part of it, here are the details. The workshop will be held at Big Mouth Scrappers in Forney, Texas, on Saturday, September 8th...lots of time to finish the project before Halloween, right? Class details are on the store website www.bigmouthscrapperstx.com and you can sign up for the class right now by emailing the store at firstname.lastname@example.org, or calling them during store hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The store number is 469-728-7237.
I'm so looking forward to seeing many of you there. It'll be such a fun day, creating a delightful project with happy and talented artists.

See you in September...let the haunting begin!
