"To find out what one is fitted to do and to secure an opportunity to do it, is the key to happiness."
If you are a creatologie blog follower, or if you subscribe to my emails, I think it's a safe bet that you are into arts and crafts, specifically book making and other paper and fabric arts. As far as a hobby or favorite pasttime, or maybe even your actual job or business, you have definitely found what you are "fitted to do".
Securing an opportunity to do it, especially in the form of a creative and artistic workshop...now that's not so easy to do. Today, I wanted to offer you a couple of workshop opportunities...one at my home on September 21st and one at Big Mouth Scrappers in Forney, TX on November 9th.
Both workshops will feature the same project, a hand stitched book created with watercolor paper...sturdy enough to paint and create funky backgrounds. The theme is "It's About Time"...with clocks being a consistent embellishment throughout the book, but it's really a generic and untitled book, just waiting for you to make it your very own. There are 13 interior pages, plus a really funky cover that you will absolutely love...all done in my signature vintage style.
You will be delighted with the embellishments that you will create...flowers, clocks, frames, etc....and of course, there are some really cool products that I have found for you inserted throughout the pages.
This is a project workshop you won't want to miss...guaranteed.
So maybe you're sitting at your computer reading this and you're torn...should you sign up for one of these workshops...or maybe you could just try to replicate the cover on your own and fill the inside with your own ideas. You could do that...sure...but here's what you'll miss out on if you don't take a workshop.
There is an amazing amount of camaraderie that occurs during (and after) these workshops. In each workshop that I design, there's time to create and to get to know your tablemates at the same time...that's resulted in new friendships, both in person and online. How do you put a price on the compliments, the gushing, oooohing and aaaaahing that you get when you put a different twist or spin on the page? Try getting that creating alone in your studio :).
When I'm teaching a project, I give you lots of ideas throughout the workshop...some are things that work and others are things that I tried that didn't work so well...and as you know, both of them are really valuable. I love to pass along tips and tricks...happy accidents...and cool sources.
I try to instill confidence in each person attending to try new techniques...to personalize the book, if they want...or to follow what I did in my sample if that's more comfortable. Knowing that someone who's already done the project is there to give you some guidance if you need it definitely is a great confidence builder, isn't it? I have a great story to share about this concept. If you follow my blog or are friends with me on Facebook, you probably know about the Mama duck who hatched out 10 ducklings in our backyard. It was really fun to watch them grow...a lot of growing in a really short time period. One of the things that the "Littles" learned quite quickly is that their extra food (ducky crumble) came from inside the house. So, if they were low on food in their bowls, they would strut down the path to the back patio and come to the slider door and peer in. If they didn't get a response, they would actually peck on the door :). All the while, Mama was on the patio behind them, not joining them but not stopping them, either, just watching to make sure that all was well with them. Of course, they would be rewarded with more food and they were totally on top of the world (at least until the next time they needed food). Interestingly enough, when Mama would have her "me" time and leave the yard, they would not venture anywhere near the house. They took a lot of their confidence from Mama...were quite bold, in fact! I guess, in some ways I feel a little like Mama. I'm there to inspire and to give confidence...but I want to you learn and grow and get good value out of the workshop.
Judging by the amount of laughter, chatter and huge grins and hugs at each workshop, there's certainly a lot of happiness going around. Just a bunch of creative girls doing what they love to do...LOVE it!
And then, last, but certainly not least, there's great food at each of the workshops! And plenty of it, too! No cooking or clean up for you, either...woot! Bet you can get behind that!
These are just a few of the things that a workshop will offer you...if you will take the opportunity.
OK, the first workshop is September 21st, at my home in Gilbert, AZ. This one only has a few openings (most of the spaces pre-sold to the last workshop attendees). The workshop will be from 9:00 to 3:30 and will include a breakfast snack, a dinner style lunch and an afternoon dessert. We will be creating indoors (September is still a trifle warm in the desert :)) and will do some of the techniques outdoors. The cost for the day, which includes your special kit, instruction and meals is just $147. To sign up for this limited opportunity workshop, simply click on the "Buy Now" button below.

If you live somewhere more convenient to the Dallas, Texas area, you may want to consider signing up for the November 9th workshop at Big Mouth Scrappers in Forney TX. I taught a holiday workshop there about a month ago and WHAT A BLAST it was! The store is fabulous...well stocked with new goodies, cool embellies you won't find anywhere, and all sorts of vintage stuff to use in your art projects. It was my first time there and I was so tickled...I started shopping about a minute after my feet landed on that store floor :). I got such a warm Texas welcome, too...fabulous for sure. Obviously, it was a great time and I'm excited to be going back.
This workshop will be held at the store from 9:00 to 3:30 and will include a lunch with dessert. The cost for the day is just $140...less than a pair of Nordstrom's stilettos (on sale, too).
I know that some of you missed out on the opportunity in June because the class sold out pretty quickly...so you will want to call the store right away and get signed up for this one. Here's the store info:
