Yesterday, I was running errands. My sweet little SUV was just humming along, getting me where I needed to go…in and out, on to the next place on my list. I got to the last place I needed to go, parked, went about my business and then got back in the vehicle, fully expecting to head home. I inserted the key in the ignition, heard the radio, saw all of the gauges on the dash light up…BUT, didn’t hear the engine turn over. My first thought was, “Did I really turn on the ignition?” So, I tried the process again with the same results…no hum of the engine…nothing. I was stuck!
I called my hubby to let him know what happened. He calmly walked me through some steps to troubleshoot…same results. He asked me where I was and then told me that he would call our towing insurance company and then head over. He came in just a few minutes and brought a cooler of water (it’s pretty hot in Phoenix right now) and waited with me until the towing company came and took the SUV into the shop.
Having him there was great for me…it took me out of the “I’m stuck here without a solution or a ride” mode and into the mode of solving the problem and moving forward.
When I got home yesterday afternoon, I couldn’t help but think about this experience with regard to creativity.
Do you feel like you are stuck in a creative parking lot? Have you tried to turn the key and there’s nothing but silence…dead silence? Have you pulled out your materials or photos and find yourself unable to do anything with them? Maybe a long, cold and dreary winter has affected your mood and you feel like you just don’t have any creative energy. Or, maybe you have a case of ennui…the same old, same old routine day after day has left you bored and unmotivated. If you’ve said “yes” to any of these, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
How do I know this? Because many of you have shared your stories with me…and have asked me how I stay inspired and motivated to create?
My answer is simple…do something creative every day…and be in the company of creative people who will help inspire you.
On Saturday, June 11th, a group of inspirational and uber creative artists are gathering for the next all day Heirloom Boutique Event/Workshop in Gilbert, Arizona. We will be at the home of my friend Gina and what a fun, exciting and creatively motivating day it will be. We will start at 8:30 in the morning with a beautiful and delicious breakfast and create and eat throughout the day until 6:00 in the evening. Gina is a fabulous hostess…she has attended several of the event/workshops and is a generous, warm and kind person…and her house definitely is a reflection of that!
The majority of seats for this event/workshop were pre-sold at the last event but because June is a busy month for anniversaries, graduations and vacations, there are a few remaining seats. One of those seats may be just for you…and just what you need to get out of that parking lot and move forward with your creative life!
The project for this event is one of the special Heirloom albums that I put together quarterly…a project that will you will be proud to include in your family treasures and pass along to future generations.
Let me give you a taste of what the project will be like this time: Picture yourself relaxing in a hammock on a warm summer day. (I know…for some of us, it’s hard to picture this, let alone actually do it (grin)). There’s a bit of a breeze and a few clouds in the sky. The flowers are blooming and trees are all leafed out in beautiful summer green. You open your eyes and take in the sights through the haziness that’s so common in the summer. You are relaxed and happy…life is good!
Now picture this scene in the form of an album…soft summer colors, breezy, gauzy fabrics, flowers, leaves, beautiful embellishments and cool and creative techniques to stretch your creativity. I’m calling my memory album “Once Upon A Daydream”, but, as always, you will be able to change the theme to something that will work for you. It’s a feminine book…perfect to showcase some of your favorite females…maybe even a tribute book to a special woman in your life.
The cost for this very special day of creativity, laughter, relaxation and friendship is just $327. You will not only receive a beautifully appointed Heirloom kit (kit value online is $197 plus shipping), but you will be fed throughout the day with homemade, gourmet food made by my daughter Ashley. Your kits will be uniquely presented in packaging that’s beautiful and useful…and you will have access to some of my personal collections of rubber stamps and ephemera. And, finally, you will not be alone. There is a hum from the synergy of creating with this group…you can definitely hear and feel it. Plus, there is such a warm, generous and giving spirit...which leads to new friendships and the sharing of common interests.
Reserve your spot today and get out of that parking lot! Just click on the “buy now” button at the bottom of this post and PayPal will walk you through the steps and let me know that you are joining this creative adventure. This is definitely a limited opportunity!
Can’t wait to spend the day with you!
From my studio to yours,
P.S. Wouldn't this make a great Mother's Day gift from your family? Just a thought...
