sharing a few more pix...

In Pam's studio I mentioned in yesterday's post that I had the opportunity to stay with Pam and her family in their lovely home but I really didn't expound much on that.

Here's a pic of me sitting on one of her fabulous feed bag covered wing chairs, sipping Cuban coffee and reading one of her books.  I have to be honest here...this pic is totally staged, which is why I have something resembling a grimace or a smirk (not sure which) on my face!  The reality is, though, that earlier that morning, I was sitting in the other chair, sipping the delicious Cuban coffee graciously made for me by her hubby each morning, and reading a book...a few quiet moments before needing to pack my bags and head to the airport.

Pam has a fabulous and oh so inspirational studio.  She converted her breakfast nook and large family room into the most amazing space...it just beckons you to come in, relax and create.  Check out her blog postings over the past few months...she's included little vignettes from her studio....be prepared to drool!

Beekeeper's Interior I also wanted to share one of the interior vignettes from The Beekeeper's Cottage.  In the spirit of celebrating white and The Many Faces of White album kit featured this month, it seemed only fitting (can you tell I've just come from the South) that I include this beautiful image on my blog.

The room made me want to sit and relax and just drink in the cool, restful beauty.

Kitty,Nancy,Ginny I have to tell you that I was a horrible memory keeper on Saturday during class time.  I completely forgot to take any pix...but I did make up for it on Sunday.  These pix definitely captured how into it the ladies were...they (and the Saturday group) were amazingly creative, fun and totally absorbed in what they were doing.  Sunday's class was really large and it was warm, OK, hot, in the room despite the air conditioner blowing constantly.  The heat and humidity were oppressive but the spirit in the class was great...focused and uncomplaining.  Thanks so much to all who attended...you were awesome.

Hard at Work3 (angela) Hard at Work2

I also wanted to say thanks to all who bought extra kits or signed up for an additional class...it was great to not have a single extra kit left!

I've been invited to come back next year...I'm really looking forward to it.  Thanks for letting me be a part of your life this weekend...can't wait to come back and play in 2009!

back home again...

I love to travel...love to go...but also love coming home.  I came home last evening after 5 fabulous days in Northern Virginia...spending time at Pam's lovely home...shopping and lunching with Pam, Kitty, Amy and Baby...visiting two amazing stores in Maryland (The Queen's Ink in Savage and Accessories of Old in Bethesda).

But, let me start at the beginning.  I left my home at 5:15 Wednesday morning.  It was 68 degrees and sunny...a really beautiful morning.  I had a layover in Atlanta and while sitting at the gate waiting for my flight, I kept hearing the weather person on CNN repeating that they were expecting some serious storms and tornados in the Washington, D.C. area...the prediction was that they were to arrive around 5 p.m.  Well, guess who else was due in at 5?  Yep, my flight was due to land at just that time.

I figured they would delay our flight but much to my surprise, they boarded us on the plane.  I got myself settled in and started on my book only to hear the flight attendant say that she's sorry but she needs to give us a status report.  Hmmm, sorry and status report in the same sentence does not sound good...at all.  And, it wasn't.  We were asked to deplane and to wait in the gate area...another status report was to come in about an hour.  An hour later, we boarded again and after sitting and waiting for our turn, finally took off for Dulles.  We got to Virginia only to be told that we had to circle above Lynchburg for about a half hour.

We landed in Dulles to some clouds and some blue skies but after about 15 minutes on the tarmac, another horrific storm blew in.  If you were a fly on the wall, you would have heard the following conversations I had with Pam.

6:45 p.m...."Hi, Pam.  We've landed...but, for some reason, we're sitting on the tarmac."

Ten minutes later..."Hi Pam...still here.  Still not moving."

Ten more minutes..."Hi Pam...we moved.  But only about 100 yards and now we're sitting between two runways.  The lightning is pretty spectacular.  I can feel the plane swaying in the wind."

Twenty minutes later.  "Hi Pam.  Still here...not moving.  A plane that landed after us got to go to the gate before us.  What's with that...it is so NOT FAIR!"

Ten more minutes.  "Hi Pam.  The plane at our gate can't move...they aren't letting planes fly out of here right now.  So, still here."

Sometime later.  "Hi Pam.  I'm at the main terminal.  They brought a shuttle out to our plane since we can't move.  Heading to baggage claim."

Much later.  "Hi Pam.  I'm at baggage claim and the carousel is turning but nothing is coming out.  Will let you know once our bags come."

Nine fifteen p.m.  "Hi Pam.  Can you believe that I finally got my luggage?  I'll wait for you outside Door 5."

Poor Pam.  She had been sitting at a gas station 5 minutes away waiting to pick me up and watching the storms blowing in and out.  The patience of saint is what she had...for sure!

After dinner out, we headed to her house...which had no power but was charmingly lit by her son with little tea lights and candles.  Sometime during the night the power came on.  Whew!

Queen's Ink Sign We headed out to Maryland on Thursday and had the opportunity to visit with Patty (the owner) and Lolly at The Queen's Ink.  What a fabulous store.  We ended up spending quite a bit of time chatting with them and I'm happy to say that I'll be teaching there January 16-19, 2009!  How awesome is that?

It was also so cool that Patty asked Pam to teach two classes...one in August and one in September.  Way to go, Pam!

Queen's Ink I love how the store is put together.  The displays are so artfully done and there are all sorts of unique products...very tempting ones, I must say.

Queen's Ink4

Look at the view from the checkout counter.  Totally inspirational, I think!  I'm really looking forward to my 2 days of classes there in January.

Accessories of Old6

The other great place we visited that day was Accessories of Old in Bethesda, MD.  What an amazing collection of vintage items, mostly produced in the 1930's and 40's.

Accessories of Old1

Look at all of the carded buttons.  Truth be told, I wouldn't have minded getting one of each...but there's always the little thing called paying for them.  :))  And, due to their age and the lack of availability, they weren't like flea market bargains.

Pam and I did pick up a few things and they are in my vintage wire basket right now.  I don't think I can bear to cut up the button cards so am planning to mat and frame them.

Lightfoot Restaurant On Friday, Kitty and Amy joined us for some shopping and a wonderful lunch at Lightfoot Restaurant in Leesburg.  I love Leesburg.  There are so many cool shops, like Creme de la Creme, an awesome French store, English Country Manor, and, of course, The Cottage, one of my favorites.  We also headed over to Lucketts (sp?) and had a chance to check out the Beekeeper's Cottage as well as the large store on the corner.

Pam Kitty @ Beekeeper's Cottage Do you see the happy smiles?  If you want to know why, just check out Pam's blog and the picture she took of the back of her vehicle. :))

Beekeeper's Flowers2

On Saturday and Sunday, I had the opportunity to teach three classes at Scrapbooks-Plus with some of the most amazing women.  They are awesome creators, play well with others :)), and made me feel totally at home.  Despite the heat, it was a fabulous time.

Girls Dessert Girls Dessert2 We ended the weekend with a girls' dessert at Pam's house...yum!

So, now you have the whole story.  A great time and great to be home.  There's a lot of work ahead of me this week.   BTW, thanks to all of you who have ordered a kit this month.  I'm woefully behind on acknowledging your orders but I promise, I will get to it!

it's white and it's delish!

Cupcake page My mother-in-law, who is Canadian, often describes things she loves as "delish"!  When I was in Australia, I heard that used a lot, as well...maybe it's a British thing?

Years ago, if anyone had told me that I would love the color white (yes, it's technically not a color, but I still call it one :)), I would have told them that they were crazy.  White is sterile; white is boring.

That is, until I got hooked on cottage style decor and learned the secrets of working with white.

It was then, back in late 2006, that I created my first holiday white book.  The class was a huge success and I've been doing variations on the theme ever since.

When friend Valerie suggested that maybe I should do a series of white books as part of the monthly kits, I readily agreed.

So, here it is:  The Many Faces of White:  Summer.  Available for pre-order now; shipping June 24th.

Learn the secrets of working with white...create a beautiful album to fill with your precious summer memories...just click on the white book picture in the PayPal storefront on the right sidebar.  Then click "buy" and I will have your pre-order!  It's just that simple...and at the end of the month, the classroom will be on its way to your home.   Yummy whites delivered to your door...now that's what I call DELISH!

ETA:  I'm taking off bright and early tomorrow morning for Virginia for a weekend of classes at Scrapbooks-Plus, so if you do email me about the kit and I don't respond right away, it's not because I'm ignoring you.  I just got a new wireless card that should work really well at the airport...we'll see :).

a hint of what's to come

Hint of what's to come

Couldn't resist :))

while it may look like I've withdrawn...

Withdrawn ...that really isn't the case...well, except for blogging.

Life has been crazy busy and taking time to blog just seemed like a luxury I couldn't afford.  But, I've been totally involved with packing and sending out the May creatologie kits, plus getting kits ready for my classes at Scrapbooks Plus in Chantilly, Virginia next weekend.  It hardly seems possible that I'll be taking off on Wednesday to fly back there...Pam, didn't we just start planning this?????  I'm really excited about taking a couple of down days...days to play, shop, eat and chat and it sounds like Pam has a couple of those days planned...and they will be filled to the brim.

Day Lily 5-30 Vern and Ashley have been a huge help...I wouldn't have gotten the kits out on time without them pitching in.  They really make an awesome team; I think it's all of the weekend competitions they have done over the years that has made them so efficient.  Anyway, my thanks to them for giving up some of their holiday weekend to pack the kits.

My nephew Michael graduated from high school last week and it was fun celebrating with him.  Vern's parents flew in for the occasion and due to the unexpected May rain, weren't actually able to see Michael graduate...a total bummer for them.  The graduations out here are held outdoors and it rarely rains in May...however, the backup plan is to hold the ceremonies indoors, which means that the number of guests are limited.  Sad for all of the kids that had family fly in for the occasion.

It was good to spend some time with Mom and Dad while they were out here...they flew home earlier this week.

Ashley is back in court reporting school for the summer session and things are mostly back to normal around here.  I took some time this morning to snap some day lily pix...here's one in the front yard.

Tomorrow, I'm working on completing the project for the June creatologie kit...be on the lookout for your email sneak peek...I really hope that you like it!

OK, off to get some dinner together...Vern is grilling salmon on a cedar plank...totally yummy!  Hope you all have a great weekend.

So...what's for dinner???

JustAThought 3 Normally, on a holiday weekend, we eat well.

Today, it appears as though dinner is going to be some delicious kit eye candy! :))

This feast for the eyes includes many bags of ribbon/trim that are really cool.  I was able to get my hands on a bolt of handmade lace from the 1960's and by using it judiciously, each kit has a piece.  I also found a bolt of avocado green upholstery trim from the 1970's and there was enough to include a piece in each bag.

Add to that mini roped pearls, black ball trim, and other ribbons...can I just say yummy?

One corner of the table is holding the silver ball sprays, buttons, keys and lots and lots of little doodads...including foil backed crystal cabs...I LOVE them...talk about bling...delicious!

JustAThought 2 Love building these kits...and, just in case you're wondering if my back challenges will hold up the process...NOPE!  The kits are still on schedule to go out on Tuesday 5/27.  I figured that it took as much energy to suck my thumb as to cut ribbon...and Tammy did my die cutting (which would have been a lovely way to get my back to heal!), so we are good to go.  Thanks, Tammy!!!!!  BTW, I'm doing so much better, especially after an hour session yesterday with my favorite massage therapist...plus a junking session yesterday afternoon with Ashley and Elizabeth (they are fabulous junkers).

OK, back to enjoying the eye candy.  It'll be interesting to see if my family will enjoy dining off the feast for the eyes as much as me...can't see why not, right?  Ha, Ha.

Thanks to all who did order a kit...it's been a fabulous month!  If you didn't order yours yet, just head over to the sidebar until you see the PayPal storefront and click on "Buy"...and the feast for the eyes will get delivered to your door.

Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing holiday weekend!

ohhhh, look at the baaaaabies!

Baby doves What is it about most of us women that respond to little babies of any sort with that phrase...with the word babies all drawn out?????

Maybe you don't do that...I know for sure that I do.

Here are a couple of baby doves that are sunning themselves on our bent twig chair...this after playing in the irrigation water around a tree in our backyard.  Aren't they cuuuuute?

Life is moving along pretty slowly for me...I'm still in really low gear.  I appreciate your emails and comments as well as your advice.  Lori, the tennis ball therapy is awesome...I've been doing that several times a day and Lena, chocolate is ALWAYS good therapy.  If I could only figure out a good way to get in and out of bed as well as sleep comfortably, things would probably heal a bit faster.

As life has been buzzing around me, I've had a chance to think about a few things:

1.  Did you ever notice how many normal every day chores require bending at an odd angle?  The front load washer and dryer, the refrigerator veggie drawer that sits almost on the floor, the hamper, the dishwasher, the pots and pans...just about everything that I need to do requires bending and stooping!

2.  I'm not a good patient.  I don't like slowing down and really don't like asking for help.

3.  I need sleep.

4.  I love being busy.

5.  It's easy to take good health and mobility for granted, until it's lost...I thank God that He's given me both for long periods of time.

Hope you have a healthy day!

out of commission...

Vitex ...mostly.

This morning, I was out on the patio...buzzing around when all of a sudden I took a step and my lower back froze up.  I literally couldn't take a step.  Fortunately, I was right next to one of the patio chairs and grabbed on until the spasm passed.  I still have no clue what caused it...there were no twinges ahead of time...no warnings.

Unfortunately, I've had a hard time getting around...despite icing my lower back, popping Motrin and liberally plastering myself with muscle rub lotions.  I'm moving around like a very, very old woman...can sit for short periods of time...can't lay down.  It's going to be interesting to try to sleep tonight!!!

Since I can do short stints of (very) slow walking shuffling, standing and sitting, I've been working on next month's creatologie kit project...I'm so excited about how it's looking...I can almost forget the pain!

The other thing that I can do is to shop online!!!!  So I placed an order with Papier Valise, one of my favorite sources for vintage stuff.  You'll see a couple of the pieces in the June kit.  Retail therapy seems to work better than Motrin!

Tomorrow, I'm gonna see if Vern or Ash can take me to a massage therapist...maybe that will do the trick.  Until then, I'm going to count on happy endorphins that come from creating!  I'm rarely sick and I can't remember the last time I couldn't get around well, so I'm definitely ready to be over this...right now!

Hope you have a fabulous week!

(Featured in the picture are blossoms from the Chaste Tree in our backyard...so fragrant...the Southwest's answer to the lilac bush.)

bringing home the inspiration...

Studio_inspiration One of the beauties of doing an advertising/inspiration board at Scrapbooks, Etc. is that when it's time to change out the board, I get to bring the inspiration home.

The torso which I cut in half and then dressed (aka Well Endowed Torso Girl) came home with me earlier this week and is now ensconced in the frame I picked up at an antique mall last year.  The frame is above my computer in the studio area of the family room.

I love it when I can reuse something, especially when it fits right in with the decor in my studio.

My new inspiration board at the store hosts a handmade wreath to advertise the new Creative Genius Workshops that begin this Friday.  I forgot to snap a pic at home and need to remember to take one when I'm at the store today.

Speaking of Friday's class, for those of you who are local, just wanted you to know that the store is also bringing in crafting metal in different colors--pink, brown and black are some--so you can transfer the techniques you learn on copper onto other colors, too.  How cool is that?  If you need a good boost of creative inspiration, call the store (480-854-2303) and get yourself signed up...we're going to have a blast...and, get this, there's even a field trip!

Hope you have a great and inspiring day...I'm off to cut some copper!

storing it pretty...

Flowerstorage1 I don't know about you, but I am a visual person.  Most of my piles and messes are there because I like seeing my stuff...having flowers, ribbons and doo-dads right in front of me inspires me.  After a while, though, it goes into the realm of cluttery and then totally messy, which becomes frustrating and counter-productive to creating.

I found a great storage solution to display my vintage flower collection (which had been stored in a large tin in one of my armoires)...it's easily viewed but yet not cluttery and the flowers are protected from the dust that's inevitable when we spend a lot of time playing with paper.

Flowerstorage4 It's an old-fashioned seed bin which is made of wood and glass and lifts open at the top.

How cool is that?

I bought mine at Mystic Paper but if you don't live in the Phoenix area, you can buy one here.

There are so many possibilities...I ended up decorating the front glass panels with white rub-ons from Basic Grey...that really dressed up the bin a lot, yet I can still see the flowers inside.

The box can be painted-think white, pink or aqua for a cottage look...or maybe black for a stunning, clean look.

Flowerstorage5 Now I can enjoy seeing my vintage silk and paper flowers...pretty storage without the clutter.

Do you have some fun and creative ways to display your pretties...cool storage ideas that also inspire you?

Would love to hear your ideas...and if you want, include a link to your site so that all of us can see...after all, we're all about the visuals!

Happy Friday...hope you have a great day.
