The National Weather Service, in an effort to take the "guesswork" out of the official start of monsoon season in Phoenix, decreed June 15th as the first official day of monsoons. This totally cracks me up as every day, while I'm out and about running errands and such, people with whom I'm doing business ask me if I think today will be the start of the monsoons. My response is usually "your guess is as good as mine!". I thought the guesswork was supposed to be eliminated with the official decree!
Well, we are almost 40 days past the official start...and the monsoon is now flirting with us.
We've had a hint of teasing rain...we've experienced a bit of a breezy manner resulting in lots of mesquite pods on the patio...we've had the sparkle of a bit of lightning and the music of some thunder...but we have yet to experience a real, honest to goodness monsoon storm.
Maybe today will be the day. It's a gray day...and dark enough in the house for me to actually have my lights turned on to read...and it's 9:00 a.m.! Usually, I'm closing my blinds to keep out the sun...but definitely not today.
I thought I'd share what I'm seeing in the yard today...my mini chandelier attached to the garden arch which is covered with grape leaves, and the gorgeous contrast of the bright magenta bougainvillea against the gray sky. Looks like there's a bit of promise in that gray sky, don't you think?
Wonder if we'll get past the flirting stage today? Your guess is as good as mine!
