Blog...what blog?

And that's about how it feels.  It's been a while since I touched base...way too long.

It's been a wild and wonderful week and half, though, with so much to do and so little time...you all know the mantra!

Collage2

Saturday was a fabulous day...Le Jour d'Artiste...a whole day of class projects.  What a great time...and our artistes were wonderful!  I can't believe they were able to accomplish as much as they did.  We gave them a few little breaks between classes but, for the most part, the whole day was spent creating.  I didn't get pix of the decorations...there were some awesome dress forms for name tags and just for fun...lots of prizes with gift bags handmade by Jennifer and great food (I would have been totally happy with just the strawberries dipped in chocolate, also made by Jennifer...pure bliss!).

Thanks for all of your emails about the day...you guys crack me up with wanting to know when we're doing our next one...a little recovery time needed...for sure!

Shabby_rabbit_3 Sunday night, we celebrated my mother-in-law's 83rd birthday at Macaroni Grill...Mom definitely enjoyed getting out as well as opening her gifts.  She and Dad leave for home (Pennsylvania) on Saturday after being out here since Christmas...too bad they're leaving when the weather is getting so nice.

This week has been kit week...due to the overwhelming response, I ended up hiring some help this time...thanks so much to all who ordered!  Today, I have to clean up the mess...my bags from Saturday haven't even been unpacked...shameful, I know.  :))

It's a gloriously gorgeous day today and I'm going to get outside and walk...clear my head a little and enjoy the sunshine.  The pic is from our sunny backyard.

What's been happening in your world over the last couple of weeks?

I feel woefully out of touch...so fill me in on what I missed, 'K?

just a quickie post...

Garden_gate_folio ...to give you a sneak peek of the Garden Gate Folio project I'll be teaching on Saturday, February 23rd, at Scrapbooks, Etc.

The event is called Le Jour d'Artiste and I will be joined by the ever so talented Tena, Jenny and Jennifer.  I'm so excited to be able to spend the day with the many artistes who have already signed up...besides the four projects, there will be a catered lunch, snacks and fun little surprises that we have planned.

You know, this project just says it all:  "happy, enjoy, smile, delight"!  We sure hope that it brings you all of the above.

Just to let you know, there are only a few open spots...to reserve yours, just call the store at 480-854-2303.

Until then, c'est tout bien!

the latest and greatest from cha-ville...

...and just to give you a heads up, it's going to be a long post.

Mm_door As this door from Making Memories suggests, there were a lot of products that I found to be "{note}worthy"!  Since I already mentioned their name, MM brought in some great new travel papers and of course, the 5th Ave. line, much of which I already snagged when it came into Scrapbooks, Etc.

I loved this door!  It is so charming and fun...can't you just see something like this in your studio, with your little pieces of art hanging across the window trim.  Fabulous.

OK, what else was great?

Theresa_collins_product2 LOVED the 4 new lines from Teresa Collins!  My hat's off to Teresa, who launched her new product line in time for this show.  Her papers are gorgeous and I love how she created tag and journaling block pages that can be cut down and bound into a mini book.  In fact, I only did two make and takes the whole time I was there and both were in her booth...one was a funky clear acrylic ring with some of her paper adhered to the underside and the other was a mini book bound together with a Zutter...fabulous!  Speaking of Zutter, they have a new hand held corner rounder that cuts through thick acrylic, book board and even wood composite.  WOW!

Another wow came from Glitz Designs.  The Roller Doodles Collection that they introduced is a GREAT product for the doodle-challenged...that would be me.  They are rubber stamps on a roller that you just ink and roll...I've played with them since I got home...thanks to the generosity of Erin and Laura...LOVE those girls.  They are so passionate about what they do...and that translates to excitement and inspiration!

Recycled scrapbook paper from Piggy Tales definitely captured my attention.  Look for them in a future creatologie kit!  Another cool new concept that they have introduced is the Pig Tail...little springy pop-up thingies...they are great and I can't wait to use them.

Tim_holtz_tickets_2  Tim Holtz introduced some great new doo-dads through Advantus.  I particularly liked the new little ticket books...fun presentation...plus his new little trinket pins, swivel clasps and hitch fasteners...all great three dimensional and dangly elements that are so fun to attach to mini books and projects.

Hs2runway Hs3travel Also through Advantus, Heidi Swapp introduced some amazing products...three fabulous paper lines (notice the black and white!), mirrors in standard silver and pale pink in SHAPES...can you believe it?????...chandelier crystals in multi colors (I have been asking for these!), felt flowers and butterflies and of course, more ghost shapes, masks and other HS things we've all grown to love.  Here are her three lines of paper captured in banners she created (OK, partial banners since I couldn't get them all in one photo).  Aren't they fun????

Hs4carefree_2 Bazzill introduced some awesome new chip shapes (look for the keys in my project in SB, Etc.'s Le Jour d'Artiste on February 23rd, as well as February's creatologie kit).  As an instructor, I love the idea of the precut "just the edge" cardstock...fancy cut edges to enhance your pages.  They also introduced some great new paper flower colors, and awesome paper covered brads...LOVE them!

New from Tattered Angels are glimmer screens to be used in conjunction with their fabulous Glimmer Mist...they look like gorgeous stencils and are in to die for packaging.  They also introduced amazing printed glimmer chips with vintage images printed on them, as well as beautiful new mist colors.

For those of you who took and are taking my 7 gypsies spinner class, there are now printed transparency packs that fit on the spinners...love them.  Plus, the spinners now also come in a larger size to accommodate 4x6 cards.  Yay!

Fontwerks introduced some new stamps called "Fram-a-ma-bobs" that I loved, plus their new Karen Russell collection is absolutely fabulous!!!!  OK, I won't lie to you.  I loved everything that Karen Russell did for this show.  Her whole Narratives collection that Creative Imaginations showcased just made me drool...not good around paper...but...it's the truth.

Carriage_prop When I go to a show like CHA, not only am I looking for product that inspires, but I'm drawn to how the product is presented.  This booth, put together by graphic 45, totally captivated me.  Her creative use of her papers, such as this vintage baby carriage, was amazing.  The booth was little but there were many cool vignettes that totally inspired me!

If you've taken my classes or ordered my January kit, you know that I love Maya Road book structures.  I was happy to see some new and exciting additions to their already fabulous line...look for them in future classes and online kits!  They also added some gorgeous velvet and textured cord flowers that are just what I was looking for to use in spring classes.  Yummy!

Tinkering Ink introduced a new peek-a-boo album that has great classroom potential...be on the lookout...

So, this is a summary of some of the highlights...I do have to say that this show inspired me more than the past number of shows...not because there were a ton of products that really wowed me but because there were so many usable products that I can incorporate into classes and online kits.  I just wish that I could have bottled up that inspiration...you know how it is when you return home after being gone for a few days...life and catch up hits you and the inspiration gets buried under all of those to do lists.  I'm hoping to tap into some of that inspiration this weekend and happily create.

Since this post is already so long, I'll post again to touch on the people I got to spend time with and on the demos Tena and I did for F+W.

I'd love to hear your feedback...did any of these products get you inspired, too?

CHA!

Cha_cover1 Early tomorrow morning I head out to Anaheim.  Can't wait.

Tena Sprenger and I will be doing daily demos at the F+W booth and we're excited to be able to show how to build this fun little zig-zag book.

Here are our show times:

Sunday, February 10th 1pm-2:30pm
Monday, February 11th, 11am-12:30pm
Tuesday, February 12th 10am-11:30am
Hope you have a chance to stop by and say hi!
My camera battery is charged, I have a little notebook in my purse and I've pulled out my comfy shoes...I think I'm all set to see what's new and exciting.
Look for some updates next week.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Classicstylebw1_copy BLACK & WHITE!

In just a few minutes, I'm heading off to teach my Totally Timeless: Classic Style class at Scrapbooks, Etc.  We're focusing on grids...they are definitely part of a timeless style...but the colors are primarily black and white...AGAIN!

Last month, the ladies in the class asked me if we were going to continue on the theme of black and white all year long.  (This was one of the layouts we did last month.)

My response- "Why, do you want to?"

Their response: "YES"!

So, here's to another month of black and white...with hints of color here and there!

Happy Friday...hope you enjoy your day!

Paris_book ...when I find a project I'd forgotten about.

Several weeks ago, I was rooting in the back corner of my closet and felt something hard.  I pulled and tugged until it came out..."it" was a vintage wine box made into a shadow box and book of Paris.

This was a project that I had made for The Book Book, published by Autumn Leaves a number of years ago.

The box was photographed but the book portion never made it into the book.

This was the cover of the ribbon bound book.  It was one of the first times that I stamped with paint.

That was totally a fun project to make.

Under the little metal sign is a fold out mini book that recorded what I liked and disliked about Paris.

Here's what it says:

"Loved the style...not the attitude.

Enjoyed the food...not the wait staff.

The sights were great...wish I had more time to see them."

I love that I took time to record my thoughts...it makes it so much easier to remember my time there.

I Love...

Rainbow2 ...seeing a rainbow after a rainy day.

And that's exactly what I saw yesterday afternoon from my front yard.

Right here, right now, what do you love?

That's the theme of our mini book for the current creatologie kit.

I'm having some challenges in uploading the pic on the PayPal widget but have appealed to Ashley for help.  So let's just say "Pic coming soon!".

ETA:  Thanks, Ashley!  Pic is up...so glad we have a 'puter whiz in the house (and it's not me!).

Cover_3 Here's what the cover looks like.

It's a Jacob's Ladder Book made by hand and fully decorated...that's a total of 12 6" x 6" pages.  So excited to be able to share this with you!

So, tell us what you love...right here, right now...and if you want a whole book of what you love, feel free to order yourself a creatologie kit.

retail therapy

Mm_journal I truly hope that I'm not the only one that falls back on this...

Truly hope that I'm not the only one who sometimes uses buying as therapy.

Tell me I'm not.

On Friday, I headed over to Scrapbooks, Etc. to drop off something, only to be asked by at least 4 of my enabling friends at the store if I'd seen the new Making Memories products that just came into the store.  I had seen a couple of new papers (the ones with die cuts-aren't they fabulous?) the previous day but was in the middle of teaching and didn't have time to savor and buy.

Well, needless to say, I bought quite a bit...and yes, I'm the one that cleaned out several of the 5thAve papers at the store.  :))

I LOVE this little journal...filled with different shaped papers...can't wait to fill it.

Mm_new_product And then...be still my heart...check out these coordinating ribbons and die cuts.

Is it any wonder that I walked out of that store with a huge smile?

I don't make a habit of buying my way to happiness but I must say that these wonderful little goodies definitely inspired me and made me happy...they are absolutely delightful!

I'm having so much fun working on the February project...the retail therapy sure helped...look for some peeks on my blog tomorrow!

Hello again...

It's been almost a week since I last posted and I miss the routine of writing and connecting with you.

This has been a week of emotional highs and lows and right now, I am just honestly feeling worn out.  Vern and I attended a friend's memorial service this morning.  He entered our lives as a business associate about 16 years ago and became a friend in the process.  The news of his death was shocking (43 years old) and the circumstances around his passing left us stunned.  I can only say that his life was very impactful with so many people and he will be missed.

Endurance_2008_132  I think that God often balances events in our lives so that we have good things to offset the bad and that has certainly been the case this week.

On a high note, Vern and Ashley competed in their first 50 mile endurance ride this past weekend and both finished the ride with sound horses and well within the time limit.  I am truly proud of both of them...not only because of this accomplishment but also because of the incredible discipline they have shown by conditioning their horses on a regular basis...even in the Arizona summer.  It was not unusual for them to be heading out to ride at 4:30 in the morning because it was "cooler"...I guess that's all relative, isn't it?

These photos were taken by Laura Bovee, ride photographer, and if you check in the gallery, some pix were actually taken by her 10 year old daughter, Hailey.  Hailey has a great eye for her subject matter...it would be interesting to see if she ends up as a photographer in her adult years.  Photos were posted with Laura's permission...thank you, Laura!

Endurance_2008_128_2

The ride was held in Wickenburg, AZ, a couple of hours from our house and thankfully, the rain that had originally been predicted for Saturday (the day of the ride) held off until Sunday.  Even the wet clothes, horse blankets and other gear couldn't dampen the spirits of these two...so awesome.

Endurance people have a saying that to complete a ride is to win...so I have to say congrats to my two winners!

Another high note of the week was my spinner class at Scrapbooks, Etc.  It was truly an amazing class with an amazing group of women...what was so cool was seeing faces I hadn't seen in years...some from the days when I taught at Memory Lane, some from Ink It days and some from the year I taught at Creative Escape.  It was so inspiring for me to watch them play...they are a creative, caring and sharing group and they truly blessed my life yesterday.  Thanks girls...you are special.

I've gotten a lot of emails about February's creatologie kit and when I'm going to put it up...I will have it up for sale on February 5th in my little PayPal storefront...I hope that you will think that it's worth the wait...I'm excited about this as it is a two prong project...building your book, then decorating it.  It's not really a Valentine book so that's why I haven't rushed to post it.  I think I'm still in a recovery mode from the first kit, then the spinner class which involved die cutting over 1500 pieces.  But, hey, I've got some good upper arm muscle tone going on...gotta love that!

Hope you have a great weekend...I'm going to curl up with the new Grisham book tonight and disengage a bit.   Anyone have any big Super Bowl plans this weekend?  Our Valley is crawling filled with visitors and lots of Super Bowl celeb parties excitement...but I will be vegging (i.e., creating!) at home!
