A couple of days ago, as I was rooting through one of my armoires, I found this altered lunch box. I had totally forgotten about it and was thrilled to see it again.
This box brings back all sorts of great memories. I was working on it at the time the Acquistions Editor at F+W contacted me to see if Tena and I were interested in putting together a proposal for North Light Books. Well, of course we were!
Christine needed a few samples from us which typified our work and since it was around Christmas and this project was fresh and new, I sent it along to her as part of the proposal package.
Needless to say, the rest is history.
It was a whirlwind year and a half in the creation and publication of Artful Memories and then Lifelines and somewhere along the way, the project was returned and buried in the back of the armoire, forgotten until this week.
The lunch box was purchased from Stampington and was covered with various papers from Rusty Pickle, K&Co., and a large sheet of vintage Christmas postcard paper. There are lots of layers of papers and labels and the entire project is sealed with a matte finish Mod Podge which is stippled and not brushed. Stippling Mod Podge eliminates brush strokes and gives a very nice and evenly textured finish.
The inside cards are cut to fit from lightweight chipboard and again are bits and pieces of layered papers. The fronts of the cards are basically descriptions of the recipes on the back. The recipes are some of those which are part of our traditional holiday meals...I think I have my work cut out for me in completing the collection of recipes...we sure do like to cook and eat around the holidays.
Have you discovered something forgotten this season? If not, my wish for you is that you do...and that you experience the same giddy delight as I did in finding my forgotten treasure.

Gorgeous, Carol! What a cool thing to find after so long. It is beautiful and what a great reminder of where you've been and where you are now.
Enjoy your holidays!!

What a gorgeous project Carol. I'll bet the editor took one look at it, and just knew she HAD to have you and Tena do your book!!
I hope you get to enjoy it this Christmas season.

What a delightful way to save holiday traditions, and keep the recipes!
